Afghanistan: Afghanistan: Common Humanitarian Fund (CHF) – Update August 2016

An estimated at US$43 million in contributions and deposits are committed to the CHF-Afghanistan pooled fund in 2016, representing 70% of the Fund’s target set at US$59 million by the Humanitarian Coordinator or 15% of the 2016 Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP).

The Government of the Netherlands is new donor to the CHF in 2016, providing a generous contribution of 6 million Euros (US$6.8 million) in April. The most recent contribution from the Government of Norway of US$2.3 million was received in June and a commitment for top-up of SEK 7 million from Sweden in July, bringing the current balance to US$33.6 million.

DFID’s annual contribution of £12 million will be made in September and December as per the multi-year agreement with the UNDP Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) Office in New York2. As contributions to the CHF are un-earmarked, the deposits received towards the end of the year may be carried over into 2017 allocations, unless utilized by the Humanitarian Coordinator for the CHF Reserve Allocation.

CHF contributions are forming approximately 11% of the funding requirement for the humanitarian response in Afghanistan this year and 35% of the HRP funding received. OCHA’s Financial Tracking Service3 shows 31% coverage of the
